Who are the “Scribes,” “Sanhedrin,” “Pharisees,” & “Sadducees” in the NT?

One thing has always puzzled me when moving from reading the Old Testament to the New Testament.  There seems to be an abrupt shifting of gears with regard to the political and social settings.  The backdrop of Jesus’ life in the Gospels involves characters like Scribes, Sanhedrin, Pharisees, and Sadducees.  However, these characters are almost completely absent from the landscape of the Old Testament.  So, what has happened?  How did we get all these new faces?  And who are they? From the last events of the Old Testament (as described in Ezra & Nehemiah) and the final prophecy made by Malachi, to the unveiling events of the New Testament, there is about a 400 year gap.  Theologians often call this period “The Four Hundred Silent Years,” because God seemed to be silent, not communicating through his prophets (this era is called the “ Second Temple Era” by the Jews).  But don’t let the absence of a prophet from God make you think that these 400 years were insig

MY NEGATIVE STATEMENT OF THE PROPOSITION "GOD BECAME A MAN" OR "GOD BECAME FLESH".

TRINITY DELUSION OF HEBREWS 1:8

Hebrews 1:8  "But to the Son He says, 'Your throne O God'? The Trinitarian Claim Trinitarians claim God (the Father) is calling the Christ "God." Examination of the Claim Hebrews 1:8 is a quotation of Psalm 45:6. The above translation of Hebrews 1:8 is another example of extreme Trinitarian translation bias. Here they outrageously try to claim that God is addressing the Christ as "God." Their translation is not the most natural reading of the original Greek text and it crudely violates the context in order to promote Trinitarian doctrine. Trinitarian Greek scholars themselves openly admit the Greek grammar does indeed allow for a different translation. Therefore, the proper translation of this passage is not a Greek grammar question, but a question of theological interpretation in order to determine which one is correct. For example, the RSV, a Trinitarian version, translates the original passage quoted here as, " Your divine t

Origin of Bible Chapter and Verse Numbers

Image
Where Do Bible Chapter and Verse Numbers Come From? Where did the chapter and verse numbers in our Bibles come from? Chapter and verse numbers are such a familiar (and useful) part of Bible reading that we rarely give them much conscious thought. In fact, verse numbers are so integral to the way we talk about Scripture that it’s hard to imagine the Bible without them. But those numbers haven’t always been there. The Old Testament has long been organized into sections and subsections; our modern chapter and verse divisions generally (but not always) correspond to the traditional Jewish organization of the text. While the Old and New Testaments have been roughly organized at least since the Bible canon was established, it wasn’t until 1,000 years later that something resembling our modern chapter and verse system was widely accepted. The person credited with dividing the Bible into chapters is  Stephen Langton , the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1207-1228. While Langton’s isn’t
